Shelter for Women and Children

Harmony House has been dedicated to supporting women and children affected by domestic violence since 1985.  We are the first non-profit organizations in Hong Kong to provide shelter and support services for abused women and their children.
 

Objectives

  • To provide a safe and immediate refuge for female  victims of domestic violence and their children
  • To offer 24-hour immediate support and referrals for families and intimate partners affected by domestic violence
  • To empower abused women, and help them restore their dignity and establish harmonious relationship
  • To protect and address the needs of children who have witnessed or been affected by domestic violence

Service Targets

  • Abused women and their children (girls of all ages and boys who are under 12; discretion may be granted to boys who are 12 to 14 years old for admission)
  • Hong Kong residents or those who have the legal right to stay in Hong Kong

* We serve all ethnic groups and people of different sexual orientations, religions, or other backgrounds.

Application for Admission

  • self-approach through our 24-hour Woman Hotline 2522 0434
  • Referral by social workers or other professionals

Scope of Service

Free Emergency Accomodation

  • Residents are responsible for the expenses of their daily living
  • The Shelter may offer basic necessities to residents with financial difficultes

Duration of Stay

  • The period of stay is usually two weeks
  • Under special circumstances, extension to a maximum of three months may be granted

Admission Criteria

  • Women have to be able to take care of themselves as well as their children
  • Admitted residents have to keep confidential of the shelter address, location and appearance
  • Admitted residents have to abide by Shelter rules and adapt to group living

 

*Individual assessment for approval of admission will be conducted by the Shelter

Harmony House provides a safe, confidential shelter for women and children affected by domestic violence in Hong Kong. As the first organisation established to support abused women and their children in Hong Kong, we offer immediate protection, emotional support and long‑term recovery assistance for those facing violence or serious family conflict.
 
Our shelter offers a secure and supportive living environment for women and their children who need to leave an unsafe home situation. Safety and confidentiality are our top priorities. Residents can stay in a protected space away from immediate risk, allowing time to stabilise emotions, regain a sense of safety, and plan next steps.
 

This service is designed for individuals who may be:

  • Experiencing physical, emotional or psychological abuse
  • Facing threats, intimidation or control by an intimate partner or family member
  • Concerned about their own safety or their children's well‑being

 

The shelter is open to:

  • Women experiencing domestic or intimate partner violence
  • Women with children who are exposed to or affected by family violence
  • Individuals who need urgent protection and short‑term accommodation due to safety concerns

Support is provided regardless of background, and our services are delivered with respect, dignity and care.

 

In addition to safe accommodation, residents receive comprehensive support services, including:

  • Crisis intervention and safety planning
  • Emotional support and individual counselling
  • Support for children affected by domestic violence
  • Assistance with daily living and stabilisation
  • Referral to legal, medical, housing and community resources when needed

Our goal is not only to provide shelter, but also to support recovery, empowerment and rebuilding of life after violence.
